At the Edge of the World (Colonial Family Trilogy #3)
Overview
I recommend reading book 2 - Currency Girl before reading At the Edge of the World. However, It isn't necessary to have read book 1 - Jacob's Mob.
Aaron and Jessie settle into married life on Norfolk Island. Jessie discovers her status has changed - she's now the wife of an Overseer, and Ellison Sharpe introduces her to the ladies of Kingston.
Aaron is soon embroiled in an incident involving murder, which results in him going to Sydney to give evidence in court. While in Sydney, he is assaulted by an ex-prisoner which unnerves him. While he would like to take Jessie away from the island to live a normal life, he fears he would soon lose his freedom and be plunged back into the prison system.
He applies for a pardon, which he believes would give him the assurance he needs. His first application come with conditions that he cannot meet. Undaunted, he writes a heartfelt petition in which he points out he has risked his life in the service of the Governor. His application is badly timed, and he must now apply to the Governor of Van Diemen's Land.
Aaron and Jessie's lives are often threatened and their safety doesn't appear to be assured either on the island or in the colony. Can they ever be free? And, even if they were is there anywhere that is truly safe?
This is the final book in the Colonial Family Trilogy.
