Vendetta; or, the Story of One Forgotten

Overview
A Story of One Forgotten is Marie Corelli’s second novel. Written in 1886, it tells the story of an Italian count, Fabio Romani, who is mistaken to be dead during a cholera outbreak in Naples, and buried in a coffin in an above-ground family tomb. He awakens, and on escaping from the coffin, finds a trove of valuable treasure hidden by the bandit, Carmelo Neri and his gang. Making his way back home, he finds that his wife, Nina, and his best friend, Guido Ferrari, are continuing an ongoing love affair, and that neither is grieving his death. He feels utterly betrayed and decides to take revenge on Guido and Nina. Altering his identity and disguising himself, he pursues his desire to a disastrous end.
Current version edited for improved grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, thus making it more understandable and relatable to students and young readers.
