Emperor’s Folly (Laim-Saga #3)

Are you rich but lacking power? Don't worry—soon you'll be poor again.
Wealth is only reserved for the powerful. If you stumble over a lump of gold, you should get rid of it quickly. Or, if you want to keep the precious ore, you have to be powerful enough to defend it.

I didn't just find a chunk of gold. No . . . a whole mountain of gold and diamonds would be a more accurate way of describing my phenomenal spaceship. But Beatrice and I are fair game—we are neither citizens of one of the major empires, nor do we belong to the cartels. You might call us a helpless treat amidst hungry wolves. And now all galactic rules, big and small, want my wealth.
