Overview
Strategic Networking: A Practical Playbook is a concise, practical guide designed to be used—not simply read. It shows you how to build relationship capital—meaningful professional relationships that create lasting opportunities throughout your career and life. Rather than teaching you to collect contacts, you'll learn how to become the kind of person others seek out for ideas, expertise, solutions, and connections.

Strategic Networking is a concise, practical, results-oriented guide to building meaningful professional relationships with purpose, precision, and confidence. Rather than simply expanding your network, you'll learn how to build authentic relationships that create lasting opportunities. At just 30 pages, it delivers focused, actionable strategies without unnecessary theory, so you can begin using them in your very next conversation.

The framework grew out of my pro bono executive coaching work with The Honor Foundation, a nonprofit that helps Special Operations personnel—such as Navy SEALs, Marine Raiders, Army Rangers, Green Berets, and Delta Force—successfully transition into civilian careers. As these men and women navigated one of the most significant professional transitions of their lives, I developed practical networking strategies to help them build relationships, uncover opportunities, and communicate their value in unfamiliar environments. While the framework was born from this work, I expanded and adapted it for professionals at every stage of their careers.

Drawing on proven executive-level approaches, this guide introduces a practical, repeatable six-step process for intentionally building trusted relationships that create Relationship Capital. You'll learn how to prepare for high-value conversations, use AI-powered research prompts to better understand the people you meet, position yourself as a connector—not just a contact—and initiate meaningful outreach, offer value before asking for it, build rapport quickly, and approach important conversations informed, prepared, and confident.

Whether you're exploring a new career, navigating a career transition, expanding your influence, strengthening organizational relationships, or creating new business opportunities, this guide provides practical tools, conversation frameworks, and proven strategies to help you build the kinds of professional relationships that open doors throughout your career.

This updated version also includes two downloadable resources you can put to work immediately: The Strategic Networking Process, a one-page PDF outlining the six-step framework, and The No Wallflower Rule: 5 Practical Techniques to Expand Your Influence Today, with specific strategies for building relationships at conferences, receptions, and other networking events.
