The Passion of Trying

Elena Vance has spent fourteen years building the perfect life and it is slowly suffocating her. At thirty-eight, she runs three hundred employees with quiet authority, raises her two children with surgical precision, and shares her bed with the reliably safe Mark Stevenson. Since her divorce shattered her world, Elena has armored herself in routine, control, and the cold comfort of locked doors, a fortress so impenetrable that even she can no longer find the way out. Then a chance encounter at a Seattle community garden introduces her to Julian Thorne, a landscape architect who sees beauty in the dirt under her fingernails and wildness in the woman she's buried alive. He doesn't just crack her walls, he makes her question why she built them in the first place.

What follows is a visceral, honest journey through the most dangerous terrain a guarded heart can the possibility of being truly known. The Passion of Trying is a searingly emotional novel about the vows we make to protect the people we love and the devastating moment we realize those vows have become a prison.

Novel traces Elena's transformation from a woman who checks the locks twice to one who finally hands over the key. Raw, romantic, and profoundly human, this is a love story for anyone who has ever chosen safety over joy and secretly wondered what it would feel like to choose differently.

The Passion of Trying doesn't just ask if it's too late to start over. It proves, beautifully and irrevocably, that it never is.
