It was late. The car park was dark. Andrea was just a kid from my writing class — nervous, clingy — and she'd heard the same rumours as every woman in Perth. Someone is taking girls off the street. The papers call him the Magician.

I thought she was being silly. I didn't want to be stuck with her every week for the rest of the course. So I told her she'd be fine, and I walked to my car.
