This is How You Lose Her and Other Poems

This is How You Lose Her and Other Poems brings together in one volume all the poems in A.D. Capili’s two poetry collections, Against My Ruins and The Way I Wait for You, plus five new unpublished poems.

The poems in this collection touch upon themes of living in a foreign land, being a parent, everyday shortcomings, the difficulty of saying goodbye, longing for lost love, and of appreciating signs of hope and belonging.

A.D. Capili draws upon his experiences living as a foreign student, then as an expat, in Europe. He writes in a language that is simultaneously urgent and thought-provoking, as well as accessible. While the poems are rooted in intensely personal experiences, the emotions and imagery they evoke will be familiar to lovers of poetry.

A number of poems in this collection first appeared in literary publications like Little Fish, DoubleSpeak, Pena, Ley Lines, and Amaranth.
