Nas de bulgar
Overview
A continuation of the novel Ferenike, The Bulgarian Nose is an autobiographical novel.
On a university campus haunted by crime and sexual violence, a love story begins. What binds the two is not only music and literature, but also a shared past. Amid intellectual aspirations and social anxieties, figures and events from earlier times begin to surface. Each episode of love is symbolically connected to the archaic history of the Romanians: Danubian migrations, the cult of Dionysus, Bulgarian mercenaries, the mythical Caucaland, as well as ancient gods and the spirits of a vanished world. All these elements form the background of a love story that gradually turns into a narrative of identity.
“To love means to discover who you are.” (The Bulgarian Nose)
“A complete spectacle of realism and imagination.”
— Dan C. Mihăilescu
“An enveloping, cinematic saga, dense, with fantastic characters, untamed spirits, zuli, myths.”
— Roxana Dumitrache
